Aches And Pains Are Not Normal

We often hear that “aches and pains are a normal part of aging.” Well, it’s true that we might experience more aches and pains as we age, but there is nothing “normal” about pain.We see a lot of pain cases these days because have so many activities in everyday life that pull our heads forward, putting strain on our neck and shoulder muscles. Poor posture, obesity, and weak abdominal muscles often disrupt the spinal balance, causing the neck to bend forward to compensate. Stress and emotional tension can also cause muscles to tighten and contract, resulting in pain and stiffness.Think about it, your head tips forward to when you look down at your phone or table, when you sit at the computer, and just about any other time we are awake.Your head is in a constant forward position and it stretches the muscles of your neck and shoulders, which in turn can cause muscle spasms throughout your whole upper back.Your head is like a 12 pound bowling ball being balanced on top of a stick. Because the head is almost always in a forward position, it puts stress on the shoulder muscles and the upper back. These muscles can spasm and then lock into place. This will also pull the vertebrae that are trying to balance this bowling ball, out of position. This is called a subluxation. This irritates more muscles which then causes a downward spiral of muscle affecting muscle.Chiropractic adjustments will move the vertebrae off the nerve, helping to reset the muscle tone (causing it to relax) and restore the normal gliding motion. A neck adjustment (cervical manipulation), applied to the joints of the neck, works to improve the mobility of the spine and to restore range of motion. It can also increase movement of the adjoining muscles. Here are some tips to help prevent neck and back pain:

  • Maintain a healthy diet and weight
  • Remain active
  • Avoid prolonged inactivity or bed rest
  • Maintain proper posture
  • Warm up or stretch before exercising or other activities such as gardening
  • Wear comfortable, low-heeled shoes
  • Sleep on a mattress of medium firmness
